Before you go...

Check the ceremony times before you go.

Gyeongbokgung has no ceremony on Tuesdays, and Deoksugung has none on Mondays. Schedules can change, so it's worth checking once more before you leave.

Get there a little early.

Around 15–20 minutes gives you a better chance to find a good spot before the crowd builds.

Don't try to see every corner of both palaces.

Pick what catches your eye and save some energy for the walk.

    Watch the royal guards

    Find a spot near the gate and watch the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony begin. The vivid uniforms and procession are hard to miss — especially against one of Seoul's grandest palace gates.

    Step inside royal Seoul

    Walk into the palace and explore at your own pace. You don't need to see every building — choose a few places that catch your eye and take your time.

  3. 11:30

    Look a little closer

    Step into the museum beside the palace. Royal clothes, objects, and everyday pieces make the world outside the museum feel a little less distant.

  4. 13:00

    Keep lunch simple

    Grab a kimbap or try a Korean convenience-store lunch. Nothing fancy — just a quick everyday meal before you keep walking.

  5. 14:00

    Meet another royal Seoul

    Catch the afternoon guard ceremony if the timing works, then look around the palace at your own pace. It feels different from Gyeongbokgung — smaller, more intimate, and surrounded by the modern city.

  6. 15:00

    Follow the stone wall

    Leave the palace and follow the famous stone wall. Trees, old walls, cafés, and city streets come together in one of central Seoul's loveliest walks.

  7. 15:30

    Stop for something sweet

    Find a café around Jeongdong and give your feet a break. Coffee is easy to find — but if you spot traditional tea or Korean sweets like yakgwa, this is a nice time to try them.

  8. 16:30

    Keep walking into Jeongdong

    Continue along Jeongdong-gil and watch the scenery change again. Palaces give way to old schools, churches, diplomatic buildings, cafés, and modern Seoul.
